Kinbaku Trivia: Nureki Chimuo, who passed away in 2013, was much more than one of the great bakushi of the modern period. A man of many talents, he also wrote SM fiction under multiple pen names and illustrated many of the great SM magazines. He had plenty of vanilla interests too, and in his last decades was part of a group that strives to keeps alive “kami shibai,” (紙芝居)a form of street theater and storytelling that was popular in Japan during the 1930s and post-war period in until the advent of television. Stories were told with sets of illustrated boards placed in a miniature stage-like device, often mounted on a bicycle.
